Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Neuropsychological Assessment?

A cognitive evaluation which measures brain function for disease or injury, such as Alzheimer’s, Lewy Body, Parkinson’s, Stroke, PASC (Long COVID) and Head Injury.

Evaluation Components:

·    Review of your medical and other relevant records.

·    Interview with you and someone who knows you  best.

·    Tests measuring mood and cognitive abilities (memory, attention, executive function).

What do I need to know about test results?

A comprehensive report is generated summarizing your relevant medical history, test results, cognitive strengths/weaknesses, and mood.

If dementia is detected, the suspected type (Alzheimer’s, Vascular, Lewy Body, Mixed, etc.), disease staging, treatment recommendations and referrals are provided.

When do I Follow Up?

Feedback sessions after an evaluation are recommended to review your test results.  Usually the session is scheduled for the following week and lasts about an hour.

An explanation of the test results, recommendations and the opportunity to ask questions are provided.

A feedback session is not required but is helpful for a better understanding of your diagnosis, and the next steps to take.

How long does an evaluation take?

Initial testing usually takes about 3.5 hours but may be longer depending on complexity.  After we score, interpret, diagnose and prepare a report, a follow up session is recommended.

An explanation of the findings will be provided and we will answer any questions that you may have about your results or recommendations. A follow up session typically takes about an hour.
